Down with Absolut?

Right-wingers find themselves in yet another tizzy. Led by Mama Malkin, of course.

Wow–people do pay attention to advertising after all. I cannot believe the level and amount of anxiety over a vodka ad that proposes reconquista–I see the ad positively, as a solution to the current immigration hassle. I think that I will go fix myself a drink.

Aha! Now Mexico can become the new France–the country and culture we love to hate. Remember “freedom fries”? Now it will be the “freedom hat dance” and down with Mexican restaurants, quacamole, and tequila. What the hell does vodka have to do with Mexico anyway?

Yes, sometimes people get really, really stupid over the stoopidest stuff. Your title for this posting, however, is well played. Well played, indeed.

  3. Hube says:

Indeed, Mike (Mahaffie). Like if Absolut had put out an ad which had Mexico as the 51st state, and all the Hispanic “activists” and “advocates” that would be demanding sensitivity training for all Absolut employees, diversity training, and “white privilege” seminars.

Like that, right? Malkin and others bring this “stoopid” stuff up just to show the ridiculous double standards that are all too common. But whereas the “advocate Left” would demand all the above and more, the Right just boycotts the product in a good, old fashioned economic punch.

  4. Paul says:

How about Jack Daniels placing a similar Ad.
Only the USA would be the Confederate States of America, and the Flag would be the Stars and Bars.

The double standard only allows outrage and offensive propositions to be one sided? Political Correctness filter?

Now who is offended, or laughing at the other side. What side?
    Paul

Meh. Stupid comes from all corners. A sense of humor is required for modern life. I’d be just as likely to laugh at anyone whose panties were be-bunched in the scenario that Hube posits as well. It’s an *ad* fer Buddha’s sake.

I refuse to go to Malkins blog.

    I’ll drink to that.

    Like that’s a surprise….

  9. stephen kearney says:

I’d like to see an ad with a current map of North America and a smiling James Knox Polk with the tag line: “The World as it Absolutely is.”

  10. Al Mascitti says:

Poor Hube. You might be the only person who hates sensitivity training more than I do. :)

  11. Paul says:

So it is OK as long as it is an ADVERTISEMENT?

Mike - Going into tizzies over bullshit like this ad is exactly what right-wingers should be doing. It is the natural order of the universe.

It keeps them off the streets and you know full well that it is far better for them to be having these periodic freakouts than it is for them to run for office.

Right. As opposed to your candidate’s camp (and just about every other “progressive”) calling any and everything “racist” that criticizes them. That’s the natural order of the universe, dolt.

  14. Bordereaux says:

Hube, name one time Obama pulled the race card for political advantage.

  15. Hube says:

Two words: “Geraldine” and “Ferraro.” And I said the Obama camp. I’m sure he’s content to let them do all the race-baiting.

  16. anon says:

Yes, Geraldine was definitely an over-the-top racial stereotype.

  17. Hube says:

LOL, anon! Talk about your blast from the past!!
