Listen to this

On Tuesday, Bill Lee appeared on the Rick Jensen Show and I decided to call up. Wanted to ask him more, but was unceremoniously cut off by an unwitting Jensen, who promises he didn’t mean to cut me off and thought I was done.

I think he handled himself pretty well. I like the part where he said he pretty much doesn’t care if people are offended by him having a good time. Good for him.

  2. Mike Matthews says:

    I agree, Dominique.

If only those leeches in the Delaware GOP agreed. That photo has many of them really worried that it could hurt Lee’s electability chances. Don’t they know it’s not Democrats that do the moral posturing like that? It’s only the conservatives who would have an issue with a 97-year-old man who goes clubbing every night.

  3. Anon says:

I don’t think Republicans are any more likely to be “offended” by the photo than anyone else. It isn’t an R or D issue. You posted the photo on May 4 (the Sunday after the R convention) and there was no uproar. What obviously got Burris’s goat was the arrival of the photo and the accompanying anonymous letter. Too bad he didn’t handle the matter better with you.

  4. Ryan Cormier says:

    Wow.

I think that’s the first time I ever heard someone say, “I know Ryan and I like Ryan.”

    Heh heh.

Hell, if he wins maybe I can work this into a new job in November like Under Secretary of Dewey or something.

  5. Nancy Willing says:

Ryan, the good Patrick Jackson sidled up to the DEMs in the Senate leadership and got a plum job at leg hall. I wouldn’t wish that on an enemy.

  6. miscreant says:

Well crafted question, Mike. It was almost like you knew it would be your only one. You can occasionally catch Bill Lee at the Dewey Beach Club on trivia night with Jeb. Their team usually kicks ass. I’ve never seen him out of line and, despite being a retired judge, he seems down to earth.

  7. Maria Evans says:

If that 2 year old pic was sent to a Lee family member with that note, and also sent to you, Mike, would that be a coincidence, or would you think that the same person sent both, and what kind of person would send that kind of thing?

I know everyone is focusing on the Burris angle, but if this all pans out, I’m more interested in who would send that to a Lee family member and why.

They don’t ask for anything, which makes me think it’s just someone looking to inflict some pain.

A criminal who Lee sent away, maybe?

Or some twisted politico? (Let’s hope not, and let’s certainly hope it’s not someone in a position to influence our government, that would be icky).

I hate mysteries, I’m a “shoot to the last page first” kinda gal.

  8. Tyson Harnt says:

Ted Blunt has dropped out of the race for Lt. Gov

  9. R Smitty says:

    Mike,

Get your damned facts straight for once!
    He’s 96.

  10. Brian Shields says:

I say he made up the blackmail angle to cover his ass. Why else would he be playing Barney Fife and not the authorities? If it was an actual investigation, he could have tipped off a possible suspect just by bullying the info out of you.

  11. GWB says:

Jenson ment to cut you off. He is a tool.
    Don’t ever trust him!!!
Next time you talk to him, he’ll say heis sorry , did not mean to do it ,” we’re buds for a long time “

  12. jen says:

OMG–is it true? Ted Blunt dropped out? There is a god. This is very good news. Tell us more.

  13. jen says:

Maria: Que pasa, sweetheart? Where you been, chica? Nobody sent the photo to Mikey. He found it and used it to rare advantage. The mystery is all solved and done with. Burris just needed a “story” for some attention–to god knows what. When his meds are corrected, his ADD should be under control.

  14. Maria Evans says:

Jen, I don’t recall seeing where Mike said he found the pic himself, in fact, in the sound clip he says “the name of the source if any,” which isn’t the same as “I found it.”

Can you tell me where I can find Mike saying he found the pic? Or Mike, can you clarify that, please?

And I hope all of that “que pasa” and “chica” stuff is your usual mode of communication and not some assumption on your part that since my name is “Maria,” I speak Spanish.

  15. Dana Garrett says:

Here is something interesting: Where is Dave Burris now? He gives “The Rest of the Story,” is caught red-handed deceiving Mike into thinking there is an FBI investigation going on & bullies him w/ possibly being subpoenaed and then Burris disappears.

Why isn’t he answering the questions raised about the discrepancies between his e-mail exchanges w/ Mike and his “Rest of the Story?”

Why haven’t the bigwigs in the GOP come to his defense or talked about this alleged “blackmail” attempt? Why hasn’t the Lee campaign said a word about it?

Where is Dave Burris? Laying low, hoping the heat leaves this matter? Or, you know, the usual at such moments: spending more time w/ his family?

Wake up, people. You can trip on the truth in this matter. It’s that close to being apparent.

  16. Maria Evans says:

I think everyone in Delaware who reads blogs is fully aware of the Burris angle. I’m really not interested in that at all. It’s played out.

What I’m interested in, is if it happened, what kind of person would send something like that to a Lee family member. I have my theories, and I’m just trying to explore them a little.

It’s too much of a coincidence if someone sent it to Mike and it showed up in a Lee family member’s mailbox. My obvious guess is that it would be the same person.

I would like to know IF someone leaked it to Mike, or if, as Jen said, Mike found it himself.

    Mike, can you clarify that?

  17. I love Booz says:

What are your theories Maria?, this issue took off before the convention when the alcoholic comment was made on the radio. Are you thinking of that guy?

Lee made it worse when he said on the front page of the Snooze Journal that he likes to go out and drink. Geez.

Sorry, but the Lee campaign is over before it started and even if he wins the GOP primary his race in the fall is doomed with the Protack Independent endorsement.

  18. RickJ19958 says:

Sorry, but the Lee campaign is over before it started and even if he wins the GOP primary his race in the fall is doomed with the Protack Independent endorsement.

If Mike Protack gets every IPOD vote in addition to his best vote total ever, he wont crack 6500 voters.

  19. jen says:

Maria: This has been hashed over for the last two weeks on DWA. You are coming in late on this. Mikey got the pic from an old Ryan Courmier blog. No one sent it to Mike. It is a old photo.

Look back to the original post. Have a good read.

You say: I think everyone in Delaware who reads blogs is fully aware of the Burris angle. I’m really not interested in that at all. It’s played out.

Wrong. The Burris angle is the story. It is still in play, whether you like it or not.

And, yes, the lingua espanica was just me trying to be funny and for emphasis. I never thought that Ms. Evans was a Latina. I sometimes hear voices.

  20. hennypenny says:

BUT, THE BIG QUESTION IS–WHY DID TED BLUNT EXIT THE RACE?

To spend more time with his family? What??

  21. Mike Matthews says:

Actually, Jen and Maria, I’m not yet in a position to say how I got it. I made reference to the Cormier post on Monday, but at this point I’m not uttering a peep as to whether I got it from someone or ganked it from Ryan’s blog.

Until I get my subpoena, that is.

  22. snark says:

according to Jen: ‘Mikey got the pic from an old Ryan Courmier blog. No one sent it to Mike’

Wrong Jen. Mike has never said he found it.

If he had found it on his own, then there was no source to “protect” and the email exchange would have gone like this:

DB: “Hey Mikey, who sent you the photo of Lee?”

MM: “Nobody Dave, I stumbled across it on Ryan’s site and thought it was funny so I reposted it. I should update the post and give Ryan credit.”

  23. snark says:

mm types faster than I do

  24. jen says:

Snark–Gotcha! I must have missed that carefully worded red-herring. Mikey is the clever one, ain’t he?

If you go to jail, can I visit? I can bake you a cake. I have already checked to be sure that the files are not too big for the pan.

  25. I love Booz says:

    Hey Ricky Poo,

I think there are more IPOD members who are active than Republicans who are active.

The Journal said there were 300 (?) delegates at the convention when Lee no showed and there are over 400 (?) Independent Party members who are active.

The GOP and Lee are shall we say “toast”. Protack clearly trumped the GOP this time. I think Lee is glad the picture is out and his family is making the picture claim so Lee can back out and save being a 3 time loser.

  26. LiberalGeek says:

Uhhh, lay off the Booze, Booz. There is a difference between delegates (party leaders in some way, shape or form) and Party Members. If you are making the assertion that the IPOD is bigger than the Republican party, you are off your rocker. And potentially lying in a pool of your own vomit, besides.

I hope Mike is happy with the IPOD ticket. He may be relegated to it for the rest of his political “career.”

  27. R Smitty says:

    Booze:
IPOD and registered independents are entirely different people. Didn’t you and Mike P discuss that or did you jump at the chance as usual?

  28. Nancy Willing says:

If he had found it on his own, then there was no source to “protect” and the email exchange would have gone like this:

DB: “Hey Mikey, who sent you the photo of Lee?”

actually, Mike is likely to have simply refused to answer Burris either way to irk him for fun…

  29. jen says:

“actually, Mike is likely to have simply refused to answer Burris either way to irk him for fun…”

Ya think? Who would have thought that one cheeky photo would have provided so much fun and drama?

    What’s up for this week?

    Vacation!

  31. Don’t Even Say It: kavips found a Common Thread Between Libertarians and Dennis Spivack « kavips says:

[…] What I am comparing in my title above, are the numerous long articles detailing the plight of Libertarian candidates across this country, to the controversy reported ably in Down with Absolutes back in 2006, where candidate Spivack objected to allowing the Green’s third party candidate to participate in a debate. Spivack did not want his message watered down; Castle obviously benefited from having the Spivack message watered down, and a Green Party walkout ensued, which looked just petty. Spivack lost points in that exchange. Two years later, I think we can safely say: it was petty. Castle won that round… […]

[…] What I’m listening to As many of you know, I’ve written extensively about my favorite male artist, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. I’ve been following his career for nearly a decade and I’ve reveled in the release of each new record, as too infrequent it may be. His last record, 2004’s Grown Backwards was an elegant, expansive taste of pop music. From the devastatingly gorgeous melody of Glass, Concrete, and Stone, to the funk of what could have been a Talking Heads leftover, Dialog Box, the album was stunning in its effortless blend of styles (Byrne even tackled two arias for the record!).
