    The Readers Digest Version:

Harris McDowell has established a reputation in the Senate as a “green energy expert” by calling himself a “green energy experet” for 12 years.

However, McDowell is flat out in the pocket of Delmarva Power. He does not even dispute that anymore.

His link to the company is strong because for the past 12 years he has been working to set up a quasi-public agency similar to Roger Roy’s TMA. (Read Delaware Watch for background on that)

He needs Delmarva Power to support his bid to control millions of dollars in carbon credits that will be paid to the state by polluters (like Delmarva Power) through the regional greenhouse initiative.

The qui pro quo for Delmarva Power is that McDowell must kill the in state wind power project that was approved by the PSC and passed by a large majority in the house.

He is working on it and has tried a number of different measures - claiming victory at every turn.

Charlie Copeland has been his main henchman, but they have not been able to find the silver bullet, and the in state wind power project only needs three more votes in the Delaware Senate to bypass Delmarva Power’s very well placed lobbyist - Harris McDowell.

This is not my opinion, but easily substantiated fact. Google “Harris McDowell & SEU” for the whole story.

What do we, as citizens and voters, need to do to get the state to move forward with Bluewater?

Delaware Citizens miss the boat ..this was published by the Center for Public Integrity back in 2000

Public Service, Personal Gain in Delaware
    by Robert Moore

    Excerpt:

WASHINGTON, May 20, 2000 – The Delaware legislature in 1999 eased government restrictions on electric utility sales, just as two dozen other states have done.

Energy consultant creates “green energy” fund

Sen. Harris B. McDowell III is director of an energy consulting business called the Delaware Alternative Power Corp. McDowell made no disclosure of that fact on the floor of the Senate after H.B. 10 was assigned to the Senate Energy Committee, which he chairs.

[clarification] Sen. McDowell pointed out that the Delaware Alternative Power Corp. has been listed as inactive by the state’s Division of Corporations since 1992, many years before the legislature was debating energy deregulation. The company, he said, never did any business in the state of Delaware. “I don’t do any business in Delaware, specifically to avoid a conflict.” McDowell said. He continued to list the Delaware Alternative Power Corp. on his annual financial disclosure report through 2001 in an effort “to err on the side of caution,” according to documents filed with the state’s Public Integrity Commission. [end clarification]

McDowell held the deregulation bill in the committee for weeks until it was amended to include $1.5 million for a state-controlled alternative or “green” energy fund to pay for incentive programs encouraging conservation and energy efficiency.

The only way the public could have learned anything about Roy’s and McDowell’s industry ties was to have read 1999 annual financial disclosure reports……….

I’d add my two cents, but I’m too busy arguing with Tom Gordon’s lawyer or campaign manager over at that thread.

  6. Dominique says:

lol - fight the good fight, Al!

  7. Al Mascitti says:

Dominique: I went through six years of this BS. Every time anyone criticized the Great Man, we had to wade through these ad hominem attacks designed to deflect attention. Sort of the way the national GOP likes to do.

you guys have no idea how homesick you are making me. Jay and I (and occasionally Mike’s belly) took on this mess every week on the Hot Spot. We had officers calling in dishing dirt left & right. We got angry; we got dirty.

Reading the back and forth~this makes me feel right at home all the way up on this mountain.

I love every moment of it!

dont believe everything you read in the News Journal, and don’t believe everything Colm Connoly delivered as “evidence”, obviously he threw in the kitchen sink. Didnt make his case for the doj?

dont you find it odd that rick jenson is pushing for people to call in support of Connoly? right makes right? How did Jane Brady work out for us?

  11. I love Booz says:

Here is a gem from todays events. This makes Harris McDowell look good.

From the Governor Candidates Debate on Social Justice

“I could vote for any one of them — happily,” said Carl Nelson, a manager in the state’s Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families. “I have never voted for a Republican in my life, but none of them crossed themselves off my ‘possible’ list today…. I didn’t think anybody fluffed anything, I didn’t feel B.S.’d, and frankly I was relieved to see the capabilities of these candidates.”

The judge, who was drafted by delegates to the Republican State Convention earlier this month, launched his campaign last week. He was invited to the afternoon symposium, but said he is “not ready to engage my opponents yet.

Is the Judge afraid? Sounds like ole Mikey P. did a good job today.

  12. Al Mascitti says:

Nominating Lee again could be the greatest favor the Delaware GOP has ever done for Mike Protack.

As for not believing everything you read in the News Journal, I wholeheartedly concur. Ron Williams, for example, has been totally in the bag for Tom Gordon for many years now.

  13. littlebirdietoleme says:

Ron Williams takes a lot of heat! Is it not possible Williams was right on Gordon!

The Colm Connoly evidence didn’t support his allegations of criminal misconduct. Do you or do you not believe in our justice system? Reduced to misdemeanor? Meaning the Court didn’t agree with Connoly or Gordons detractors. The Court has spoken! Whats the beef?

Gordon has the right to seek his former office. Since he has been held to such legal scrutiny, he would be a fool to make a mistake next go round.

Obviously many people support him, there is a reason for that! It will be an interesting race.’

One of the most unusal posts ever came from Alan Muller the other day where he is claiming that the county had it in for him and had a judge fix his trial decision with an intention of denying Muller the opportunity to appeal. That is paranoid delusional.
    Maybe I am being naive.

  16. Al Mascitti says:

“Ron Williams takes a lot of heat! Is it not possible Williams was right on Gordon! ”

That depends. When the transcripts of prosecution tapes come out, we’ll all get to read quotes from Tom bragging about how Ron lied to his bosses to get them to drop the investigation into the loan/gift/loan, and what a great tool he is for the Gordonberry administration.

Does that answer your question? If not, ask your hero Tom Gordon to agree to release the transcript of the tapes. There’s no legal reason to keep them sealed anymore, and the News Journal knows it. Yet the newspaper refuses to even ask the court to unseal them.

    I wonder why?

  17. Al Mascitti says:

“The Colm Connoly evidence didn’t support his allegations of criminal misconduct.”

But they sure do offer incontrovertible evidence of misconduct. It makes a great campaign slogan: “Tom Gordon — Hardly Convicted of Anything!”

“Do you or do you not believe in our justice system? Reduced to misdemeanor? Meaning the Court didn’t agree with Connoly or Gordons detractors. The Court has spoken! Whats the beef?”

The beef is that the judge was both prejudiced against the government — he’s the same guy who saved John Murtha’s skin by refusing to convict him during ABSCAM, and is on the record as thinking the feds have no role to play in cleaning up local governments — and is also losing his marbles.

“Gordon has the right to seek his former office. Since he has been held to such legal scrutiny, he would be a fool to make a mistake next go round.”

Yes, he has that right. And I have the right to remind everyone of why he doesn’t deserve that office.

“Obviously many people support him, there is a reason for that!”

The top two are stupidity and venality. But there might be others.

“It will be an interesting race.”

It certainly will. And I think it will do wonders for my ratings.

  18. EminentDomain says:

I spoke personally with Sen. McDowell about the Osbourne crusade to stop the Eminent Domain problem in the City of Wilmington and asked that he add his name as a sponsor of the bill and he put his name on the bill. I know Ed Osbourne and McDowell stepping up was important to me.

  19. ANON says:

Nancy: the topic isn’t Alan Mueller! You never miss an opportunity to go off thread to attack some one! outrageous behavior.
