Delaware Republicans in desperation mode

Yes, I’m chilling on vacation, but I’m still checking my mail. And this juiciness floated into my box this morning:

START:The first (Bill Lee fundraiser) will be on JUNE 8 from 3-5 PM at the Home of Mr. and Mrs.  Mike Fannin.  Suggested contribution is the maximum donation of $ 1200.  By maxing -out to the campaign , you will receive a complimentary ticket to all future Bill Lee events. END

Wow, those bitches ARE desperate. Maybe they can blackmail money out of people by threatening subpoenas.

Yawn, 3-5 so he doesn’t have to get up early and not too late to interfere with a night out on the town.

  2. Disbelief says:

“Those who give $1,200 will receive one free quash of an FBI warrent or subpeona of their choosing.”

  3. Paul Smith says:

Mike, that’s pretty standard. Every campaign I’ve been on (going back over a decade) has practiced. It’s just a way to say thank you to your big donors.

  4. vyllyn says:

It’ll be more than Projak will get combined.

  5. snark says:

    Paul,

how dare you inject experiance and fact into this rant!

    Killjoy!
you are ruining mike’s potshots at Dave’s candidate. stop that.

  6. jason330 says:

Lee surpasses Protack’s fundraising the minute the first guest arrives.

  7. Von Copeland Express says:

Maybe Fatboy Chickenhawk FSP Dave will do a dance at the event for everyone but then again he quits everything he starts so don’t look for the tango to last too long.

  8. liz allen says:

I donna know….they had a “big fundraiser” for McInsane and so few showed…they called it a “get together”. If the true republicans do not immediately distance themselves from the neo cons…they are finished for decades…

  9. Mike Matthews says:

I meant to put emphasis on the part about the suggested donation being the maximum. I’m on this dumb pda and can’t bold or italicize.

either way, in the five years I’ve been following this shit, I’ve never seen such a direct request. I thought it was funny, to say the least. and it just goes to show how desperate the gop is.

  10. jen says:

What would it take to just get in the door? How little would they accept? Where is the Fannin home? We could all contribute to send in a bloglodite.

  11. Dana Garrett says:

““Those who give $1,200 will receive one free quash of an FBI warrent or subpeona of their choosing.”

    LOL!

Just think, Mike. If you attend the event bearing $1,200, you might spare yourself the hot lights and the 48-hour non-stop interrogation of the FBI. Or not have to endure the US Attorney loading you up w/ serious felony charges that could put you in jail for 200 years, but after racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorney fees, offer you a plea to a low-level misdemeanor that if it were one degree less serious, it would be a parking ticket.

  12. Dana Garrett says:

“Mike, that’s pretty standard. Every campaign I’ve been on (going back over a decade) has practiced. It’s just a way to say thank you to your big donors.”

Well, well, it’s Paul Smith and his usual “That’s standard” defense.

Paul, do tell us how holding a $1,200 person event is a way of thanking them. I thought it was a way to hit them up for money.

Do tell us how “standard” isn’t sending the message that the big bucks people will get the ear of a Governor Lee first? It sounds like “standard” sucks from where I’m sitting and also “stupid” because you just can’t win an election in DE where w/ getting mostly the vote of the top 10% alone. Hopefully, Tom Ross will remind the DE GOP to look at the calender and realize that the 1980s are long gone and are not coming back.

Standard or not. Mike’s point is valid. It can’t be dismissed by blithely waving a hand and muttering “We’ve always done it that way.” Actually, the exactly symbolizes the problem.

  13. RickJ19958 says:

Events frequently solicit the maximum donation - with Lee’s shortened season, this is more important than it would be for Markell, who has been raising money for the past ten years.

I believe Paul is saying that it’s “standard” to give maxed-out contributors full access to future events. Once the donation limit is reached, one can’t keep paying for wood-grilled pizza, even if one wants to.

  14. Paul Smith says:

RickJ was correct in interpreting my events, unlike some of the more partisan on this post.

Lee needs some big money donations if he’s going to even begin to catch up to the well-funded campaigns of Markell and Carney, so of course he’s doing a big dollar event. Lee’s starting with no money in the bank; Markell and Carney are already each into the millions. He’s not going to catch them in $50 increments. Do you think Markell and Carney to where they are with $50 events, or are you only interested in bashing Republicans while turning a blind eye to Democrats doing exactly what you criticize Republicans for?

Unfortunately, for most of you out there it’s likely the partisan angle you’re interested in, not honesty or fairness.

  15. I love Booz says:

Lee is wasting his time and the time of the GOP. It has been a month since the convention he forgot to attend and nothing has happened with his ‘campaign’.

Face it Bill, you couldn’t do it with a three year start last time and you can’t do it now. Stay home and don’t get humiliated. Carney and Markell are laughing so loud it ain’t funny.

A tired old man with a tired old campaign with no chance. He will be lucky to crack 30%. No 80 year old man should be running for Governor.

  16. RickJ19958 says:

    Let’s see…

    Nickname - I Love Booz
Axe to grind against the Republicans…

I’m going to go ahead and say “Who is John Atkins?”

I’ll take bitter cranks for $800, Alex.

  17. I love Booz says:

No axe but just the facts. Lee has no chance, none at all. In 2004 he had three years to get it together and he couln’t do it against the
    G O V with a G E D. Markell and Carney are light years better than RAM.

I see him barely losing the primary or barely winning and limping in to the fall as wounded and worthless. If Protack gets the same total this fall as Infante then Lee is road kill.

BTW I will be back in da house next year.

  18. Dana Garrett says:

Look, Paul, the matter is quite simple. The people who can afford to give $1,200 to Lee will give it to him anyhow.

Start early or start late–either way, if you start w/ the bigwigs, you send a message. John & Jane Delawarean aren’t going to see Lee’s 1st fund-raiser w/ the bigwigs as a necessity driven by HIS DECISION to jump into the race late.

What Lee should have done is thrown a BIG event as his 1st complete w/ music outdoors w/ a minimum donation of , say, $15. Make the event one that reaches a large voting demographic the GOP needs.

Draw attention to the fact that this event is affordable because people are hurting and the Lee campaign wants to bring them into the process and be their voice. Do that but have Lee’s workers and Lee himself calling the big money people for donations. Don’t do a big money event for them until mid July. Tell them that on the QT and tell them why. Before then gear the public message and the publicity toward the middle class.

But, no, someone told Lee to do the traditional GOP thing THAT DOESN’T WORK ANYMORE: go to the rich 1st make that your message: “You are my first constituency.”

You think the Dems won’t slap w/ that this Fall like I did? LOL.

I like Lee. I liked him every time I’ve heard him on the radio. I think he’s basically an authentic person. Lot to be said for that. I’m not voting for him, but I like him.

But someone is telling him to duck debates and pander to the rich from the get-go. That is precisely the opposite of what he should be doing. But, hey, if you guys want to be humiliated in this race, it’s your party. It’s a pity, though. A close race would be good for DE and wouldn’t permit my party to get lazy and cocksure.

  19. anon says:

You blog people think you know it all, but you’re just a bunch of morons and Dan Garrett’s the biggest moron of all. Talk about speaking and removing all doubt! Just an armchair quarterback no one would come close to for actual campaign advice.

Bill’s already had multiple fundraising events (that I know of) and at least one had no mandatory charge.

Idiots! Have a joyous time in your little pretend land.

  20. amie says:

is it me or has anyone else noticed that all of these recent anons are pretty much like the douche bags from highschool who would either laugh at jokes they were not part of or sit at home bitching because they didn’t want to go to the stupid dance with those stupid kids anyways??

no one forces you to read it circus whore~
    mwah!

  21. I love Booz says:

“Bill’s already had multiple fundraising events”

Sorry but Happy Hour at RudderTowne where someone buys him a drink is not a fundraiser.

The entire Lee campaign is a waste of time. Lee’s draft was never about winning it was about screwing another Republican. Too bad he trumped them the week after the convention.

  22. RickJ19958 says:

Lee’s draft was never about winning it was about screwing another Republican.

Which Republican is he screwing? Mike Protack is on the ballot one time, on the IPOD ticket. Until he ponies up his fee, he’s perverting the ideals of the Independent Party, not the Republicans.

  23. Dana Garrett says:

“at least one had no mandatory charge”

And this is precisely my point. We hear about this after the fact from an anonymous commenter on a blog.

No fanfare, no event billed and dramatized for the constiuency the GOP in DE needs to have a message for

  24. Dana Garrett says:

“at least one had no mandatory charge”
And this is precisely my point. We hear about this after the fact from an anonymous commenter on a blog.
No fanfare, no event billed and dramatized for the constituency the GOP in DE needs to have a message for to rebuild.

  25. Dana Garrett says:

    I Love Booz,

You are really an offensive human being the way you engage in your libelous remarks about Bill Lee. If you are going to continually call the man a habitual drunkard, then you ought to have decency to use your real name.

NO ONE has presented any evidence that Lee has a drinking problem. None whatsoever.

I dislike the taste of alcohol and rarely drink it and haven’t been intoxicated in several years. But I know people who go to bars 2-3 times a week, have a drink or two–people who go to them because they are extroverted and like to see their friends and have casual conversation w/ acquaintances–and yet these people have no more of a drinking problem than I do.

Just because people have seen Lee in bars in itself means nothing. Nothing at all. It quite possibly only means he’s a friendly, gregarious sort and that is hardly a strike against someone running for governor.

So either put up your evidence and attach your real name to it or stop the libelous BS. It’s offensive and it’s wrong.

  26. anon says:

The email that the author referenced included three fundraisers. One was for $1,200. One was for $250. One was for $25. Just because Mr. Matthews left out two of them doesn’t mean the campaign is doing something wrong.

I bet that Mr. Booz is the same person who sent me and many others an unsigned letter with a picture of Bill this week drinking beer with all kinds of slanderous details attached. That’s shameful. I doubled my donation to the Lee campaign as a result, and volunteered to take the week off from work leading up to the primary to make sure that Mr. Protack is soundly defeated for tactics like these.

  27. Sam Carpini says:

I think the real deal is Copeland is using Lee as a decoy to spite the other nominee. The worst is that Lee would allow himself to be used in this manner. It shows the sad state of affaires the GOP has gotten inself into.
These bitches can’t even become serious challengers in state wide campaigns because they refuse to change thier ways. They have failed to see the world of politics has shifted in Delaware. They have become the blind leading the blind.

Senator Copeland handed over what little power he had to Senator Still who is living with his beach Bunny but still has a wife of over twenty years. That’s going to go well in the fall campaign. It goes to show just how two faced and flawed the GOP truly is. They are this country’s best educated dumbies.

  28. Dana Garrett says:

“Senator Copeland handed over what little power he had to Senator Still who is living with his beach Bunny but still has a wife of over twenty years. That’s going to go well in the fall campaign.”

Still’sw last day is June 30. He’s not running for reelection. What does Still’s personal circumstances have to do w/ Copeland?

There’s plenty to criticize Copeland about w/o making him responsible for Still’s behavior.

  29. Dana Garrett says:

“I bet that Mr. Booz is the same person who sent me and many others an unsigned letter with a picture of Bill this week drinking beer with all kinds of slanderous details attached.”

Please forward the e-mail to me at

    DanaVGarrett@gmail.com

I’d love to catch the person who’s behind that crap (but don’t worry: I won’t threaten you w/ the FBI getting you if you don’t want to give the info to me).

  30. Disbelief says:

If the Rusty Rudder and Starboard erase their bar tabs held on Lee and the amount exceeds $1,200 each, is that a campaign donation violation?

  31. Dana Garrett says:

“I think the real deal is Copeland is using Lee as a decoy to spite the other nominee.”

I think your analysis makes Copeland out to be more unselfish than he is. Copeland would lose his Senate career just to spite Protack? Not in a million years.

I think this might be about promoting himself, perhaps giving him statewide recognition for a retiring Castle in 2010.

One things seems to be sure. Bill Lee apparently intends to apoxy his name to Copelands. Check out the website is coming announcement:

“I now embark on a new journey to convince the people of the state of Delaware that Senator Charlie Copeland and I have shown the foresight, have shown the vision and are prepared to fight every day until we make Delaware the best state in the union once again.”

    http://awurl.com/lxtcas72214

  32. Sam Carpini says:

Castle will go down this year with the rest of the GOP. He hug around too long and Copeland just don’t want to be in charge of a very minority group.

  33. ANON says:

Just goes to show the republican party are the fat cats…$1200 in this economy! Castle on WDEL was a total ass….his energy plan flies in the face of global warming…so out of touch, so out of the peoples (voters) minds. Thinking he is scared he will loose this time…too many republican women are not sticking with him this time. bye mike enjoy your castle at the beach Mike a great place to retire.

  34. RickJ19958 says:

Well, ANON, the standard bearer Carney raised over $1 million in pretty big chunks himself, and your pal Markell had 103 donations in excess of $1000 on the first 13 pages of his 109 page report (I’m too tired to count them all). It sounds like you’ve got fat cats of your own.

There has been well over $3 million raised by the two Democrats in this race, and the vast majority of it came from people who gave more than the reportable number. Carney raised $693,944.44, and just $33,425.18 came from below the reporting threshold - only 4.8%. Markell had just $17,362.61 of his $2,103,398.56 come from donations of $100 or less - that’s less than 1% (.82%)! Stop with your “Party of the People” nonsense - it’s insulting.

  35. Rob Foraker says:

Mike Protack Republican Candidate For Governor says to help the state deal with affordable housing is to lease out the states properties. Now does this sound possible, maybe..I guessing the idea would see results by 200?. Sometimes the reporters on WDEL plugging the Candidates sound confusing or confused themselves. The listeners already realise the station plugs candidates of their choice. The news turns into a segment of manipulation in an attempt to plug these candidates. I hope to see better practices in radio in the future….

About 10 years too late on that one, Dana. “Lazy and cocksure since 1998″ might as well be the party motto.

And don’t think I didn’t miss your craven shot at Colm Connolly. If you’re not careful who you get in bed with, you’ll find out the cure for crabs is pretty much the same as it was back in the ’80s.

  39. RickJ19958 says:

Rob, you forgot some important commas in your directionless screed. It should read ‘Mike Protack, Republican, Candidate for Governor’.

You see, despite how Mike chooses to promote himself as such, and despite his sockpuppets’ demand that his Republican endorsement was stolen from him, he can’t lay claim to being a ‘Republican Candidate for Governor’ until he pays his filing fee, and he hasn’t shown the inclination to do so.

  40. Rob Foraker says:

Al, I’m glad you have an interest in my campaign. I accept and appreciate your endorsement….keep up the good work..

    Heres the deal;

Has to be cash though, very few checks please.
