I'm Dominique and now I have nothing to write about!

Obama's people aren't saying mean things about Clinton!

Oh fuck it. I'll bitch about that! I'll just use it as another excuse to whine and pretend like Obama's campaign was somehow dirtier than the Clinton's, ha ha.

You are such a trainwreck.

Domi,

Even in jest, doesn't that feel better? Lay down your burden sister.

So you are not going to get the "girl power" themed teaparty you've been dreaming about and the Helen Reddy LP's will have to go back down in the basement for a few more years, but think about the big picture...

Five months ago, Hillary had a 20-plus point lead in Democratic polling, the greatest name recognition of any candidate, the most money, support from a popular former Democratic president who was actively campaigning for her, nostalgia for the Clinton era of "peace and prosperity," a ton of endorsements, the aura of "inevitability" -- and she squandered it all with an inexorable series of misjudgments,

Doesn't that tell you something?

As for me I'm glad we have a Democratic nominee that does not have a 54 percent unfavorable rating and who 58 percent of voters say is "not honest and trustworthy."

Darn right we need near-elimination of fossil fuels. ASAP.

I do not think Karen is saying this is going to happen tomorrow, but it is something to work towards.

As for nuclear power, fission or fusion, this is simply not available safely and at reasonable cost. Does not matter whether you "like" it or not, its not available...

But wind, solar, conservation ... ARE available.

His preacher Hagee??? Whoa. I have not been following McCain and have been totally turned off by the length and drag of this endless national campaign "era"--it has long since gone well beyond "season." I am much more involved right now in local politics. McCain's preacher is Hagee? Holy shit. This is the rapture dude with the TV show? The chubby white guy filling the airwaves with ideas that make my hair stand on end and my skin crawl? OMG! THis is disturbing. Are there any normal Republicans left on the national scene?

Most of this is just campaign fodder for the 18-25 year olds.

*wind, both onshore and offshore -
This is the steam engine of the 1890's. When companies cannot get funds from the private sector to invest in their projects, and must get the goverment to force people to do so,you know this is a dead dog.

*solar, both “rooftop” units and full-scale utility plants

This is where the future is. Just look at the millions and millions of dollars pouring into solar compainies by private investors. I'm personally heavily invested in MEMC, ITRI and CLSR. I believe with in 10-15 years, as technology advances we will see malls, apartment complexis and corporations run on solar power. The only thing that can screw this up is goverment involvment. If the next president behaves as Clinton did with the computer and the dot.com's (hands off) he will ride that economic wave for eight years.

*wider use of mass transit, including electric trains

A bus that gets 8 mpg that is 1/3 full is helping how? A recent cover story by Car and Driver looked at public funding of mass transit for the past 40 years, a must read for anyone who still believes in this fairy tale. As for electric trains, how are we producing the electicity to power the trains?

*near-total elimination of fossil fuel usage
Why would we want to?

*wider use of electricity and hydrogen for vehicle fuel

A recent PBS documentry looked at hydorgen vehicles and the most ardent eviromentalist on the show called this more or less a pipe dream. The obstacles/cost of tranporting hydrogen are decades away if ever.

*smart grid technologies and distributed generation

We already have this.

You're right, Mat. I should have been more specific. I should have said "a junior senator who had barely spent a year on the job before he started campaigning for president".

You were right. I was wrong. He has just as much experience as Kerry and JFK and Edwards and Clinton and McCain and, hell, anyone who has ever run for president. Ever. Plus he, like, gives great speeches and stuff. He is immensely qualified for the job. I feel GREAT about the way everything has turned out. He can change everything. I believe in him. And unicorns.

Al
“near-total elimination of fossil fuel usage”
Actually Yes ! The massiver takeoff in Solar and wind production might give us enough time to make the promise of fusion power a reality. We are making progress but have not yet been able to sustain the heath long enough. Funding is sparce because fusion has no nuclear weapons potential. Sad but true.
DOE spends little money on fusion reasearch but Europe is more enthusiastic. I feel certain that within 20 years we will have reached a sustained fusion reaction
We really MUST get away from fossil fuel and nuclear fission. It kills !
Coal gasification has a promise but is found to be too expensive.
Interesting stuff, I believe in the American Genius.
