What the hell is she thinking and who the hell pays her salary?

Gov. Minner gone wild; vetoes eminent domain bill.

Question: The bill was approved in the house 38-0 and the Senate 18-1. Isn’t that a veto-proof vote? Again, I’m often a moron on some of these issues, but does the two-thirds-majority thingie only apply to Congress? Can’t this veto be overridden somehow?

I’ve got calls into both the Carney and Markell camps for a response to this. No one picked up at Carney’s. I left a message with a Markell staffer who said he’d be looking for a response and would get back to me ASAP.

Update: In less than an hour I got a response from the Markell camp. Press guru Joe Rogalsky reports that Markell would have instantly signed this legislation because “he believes in protecting Delaware homeowners and businessowners.” From a presser two weeks ago:

“The protection of private property from government seizure is one of the fundamental principles that our country was founded on,” Markell said. “Delawareans who have built homes and businesses should not have to live in fear that one day their local government will order them to sell their homes and businesses so the government can turn the land over to a private developer. Delaware will be better off when this bill becomes law.”

To be fair, I guess it would be a good idea to leave a message on Carney’s voicemail as much as I hate doing so.

Update II: I’m receiving word that this bill was vetoed at the behest of former State Rep. Joe DiPinto, who is now a big player in development circles. My source is pretty damn solid. Of course, it is better to be read than to be right, so I could be wrong. I’m a confident lad, though.

Update III: From Dana Garrett at Delaware Watch on a protest to be held at Legislative Hall on Monday:Buses will depart on Monday night from the Christiana Mall Park & ride at 4:00 PM and will return at 8:00 PM. People are asked to call Ed Osborne at 302.636.0450 if the are able to make a firm commitment to attend.

At risk of stating the painfully obvious : Ruth Ann Minner is a half-witted dullard puppet, the most pathetic disgrace of a public official ever inflicted on this state.

Of course, she knew she was going to do this all along, but of course waited to give the GA the least room to over-ride her. I hope they stick it right back in her face on Monday.

I wonder if Buccini has a nice property waiting for her in January. It’s the least he could do for her services rendered.

Maybe they should picket the restaurant where the Senators are chowing down at the expense of some lobbyist before they go into session at 7 p.m. The festivities begin at 4 o’clock at the Iron Gate Inn (which is closed to the general public on Mondays).

  3. RickJ19958 says:

There is no way Carney is going to attack anything Minner does. He is scared to death that the unions who pull her strings might drop their endorsements if he does.

  4. Sam Carpini says:

She’s our GED Governor. She’s also a back stabbing SOB. She stabbed Rep. Dennis Williams in the back on this bill. She got back in to office from Williams & Potter’s district and now Aunt Ruthie stabbs him in the back. She is in Joe Dipinto’s pocket. This veto is as bad as her breath.

What do the Unions have to do this this Bill

    Can she be impeached?

You can hate DC Republicans and BUSH, but look at DELAWARE DEMOCRATS, and now MINNER.
    KMA Carney, minner clone.

Why was not this bill law on the 26th of June.
With the passing of the bill on the 10 and 12th of June, the bill should have been on her desk Friday the 13th.
TEN days later, it is law or it is vetoed.
    Sundays do not count,

    June 13 day one, 14 - two,

3 - 8 days is Monday thru Saturday the 21st.
day 9 and 10 is Monday and Tuesday the 23 and 24th of June. Law by the 25…

ASK the Legislature, did they hold the bill back a few days to create this June 30th last shot???
Another DESK drawer game of hide the pea?

Did Minner wait till all the talk shows were over for the week?

This obviously is not REPRESENTATIVE government.

  7. Al Mascitti says:

Andy: Buccini-Pollin wants to build lots of town houses on the tract. That’s construction jobs. That’s union work. Which is why the Democrats are not the progressive party in this state. They’ll sell out for construction-job peanuts every single time.

Mike I urge you to move the Bus to Dover info to the top slot on DWA (sorry Dominique) and to contact DL and ask them to do the same.

Joe DiPinto, former duPont shill in Dover, is a stone Republican. Not that it matters in The Delaware Way (for screwing the electorate).

John Carney made a public statement that he is opposed to S.B. 245…so drap this shit on his shoulders.

Also, it is VERY IMPORTANT to remember this is NOT a city of Wilmington issue….S.B. 245 is state wide (so notify your contacts in Kent and Sussex) issue. There will be nowhere to hide if this bill is does not prevail.

Mike: Did you put a call in to Judge Lee?

  9. Nancy Willing says:

There is more bus information. The times were switched to 4:30-7:30 and a bus was added leaving from New Castle. A call in to Ed should get more info to whomever might be able to go down.

  10. anon2 says:

Al, unions do not build any residential houses. It would have to be for condos or high rise stuff.

  11. Anon3 says:

    Anon2,

Unions can work anyplace there is a project.

A bock of houses, built by a central contractor, would easily qualify for Union Workers.

Your comments appear to misdirect the public.

  12. liz allen says:

Joe Dipinto: now we are getting to the core of the issue. His plans for casinos, and upscale housing on the “Sewer Front”, in collusion with the Baker regime, and the Delaware “Private” Policy groups, in collusion with “frightened politicans”, in collusion with union bosses, put the fix in. It was planned that Minner would veto to late for the public to organize. This is the Delaware Way.

Aahh but, there is an election coming up. We know what to do!
